Pentas Seni Merdeka is a monthly, free, public arts initiative aimed at increasing social equity through public space activation and further poising Downtown KL to become a creative and cultural district. The first edition launched in July 2022 which featured Ronggeng Melayu with a myriad of other activities including workshops, interactive activities, demonstrations, displays, food trucks and more. The following editions will take place every second Saturday evening of the month from September 2022 onwards with highlight programmes featuring Music & Dances of Borneo Malaysia (September), Bollywood & Bhangra (October), Chinese Wushu (November) and more as well as performances by DBKL Cultural Artists & Cultural Combo.
It is a monthly public program aims to build an immersive and inspirational experience of Malaysia's traditional arts, culture and heritage for everyone by encouraging in-person engagements post pandemic. The overall program will promote traditional arts and culture, with inclusion to support rehabilitating businesses within the Kuala Lumpur Cultural and Creative District (KLCCD) area. The program caters to all demographics e.g., families, youth, B40 communities, high mobile individuals etc.
